The energy savings depends on many factors, such as the existing glass type, existence of overhangs, your location (climate), any shading (trees, bushes), thermostat settings, and energy rates in your area. However my manufacture states that on average most houses and buildings can get between 5-15% savings depending on film selection.
According to the Department of Energy statistics, solar heat gain through windows is responsible for about one third of a home or buildings cooling cost. Energy-saving window films can reduce solar heat gain by up to 75% or more and can significantly reduce the run time of air-conditioning systems or even allow them to operate at lower load conditions. This can reduce cooling costs, lengthen HVAC equipment life, lower maintenance costs and allow for replacement of cooling equipment with smaller, less expensive equipment.
Yes, in fact window films can assist with as many as 9 LEED certification points (out of 32 points required for Silver LEED certification). The energy savings provided by my manufacture can also assist buildings and homes with their Energy Star Labeling requirements.
